Two regions, can't adjust sizes.
New to Gimp, searched for solution via google but I'm believe my question is so basic I can't find the answer.

I wish to print an image from a scan of an old paper manual. I used onenote to clip the image into onenote then copied it to clipboard, pasted into gimp.

I have two regions one is the pasted image, I can resize and rotate it . The other half of the screen is a black (checker board? ) region. As I try to resize my pasted image it gets cropped or obscured by the black region. How are this (checker board? ) region handled.

It seems to be stopping me from doing what I want, can someone explain what this region is called and how it's made to work for me.

Are you referring to the transparent background you see if you have removed all color from your background bottom layer?

The checkerboard pattern is Gimp's way(*) to tell you there is nothing to see (the image layer(s) (is/are) transparent, or the layer is smaller than the canvas).

Did you paste into Gimp using "File>Create>From clipboard" or did you create an image ("File>New...") and then pasted your image in it? With the first method, the canvas is exactly the size of what you paste, with the second method there is no relationship between what you paste and the canvas.

You can force the canvas to be the size of your layer using "Image>Fit canvas to layers".

Did try image resize to canvas, but image edges are still obscured or croped. How do I expose edges of image?

I suspect your layer is larger than your canvas.

Not sure what option you tried (image resize to canvas). Try
Image > Fit Canvas to Layers
This will enlarge your canvas.

Yes, thanks I did try create from clipboard, and this helped a lot.
