Squished Brushes?? Help!

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: Windows 10
GIMP Experience: Experienced User

Hi all,

I'm new to these forums, but not new to GIMP. I am having a problem, though, that I can't figure out or find anyone else having the same problem.

Today I was going to complete a painting for one of my classes, and I have been using gimp to work on it for a couple of weeks, and now that today, when I need to finish it, the brushes are getting squished. It's impossible to paint now! Even when I tried to create counter brushes to maybe let the squish turn into a normal brush, it just skewed even more. First it was the paint brush, then the smudge brush, and then the air brush tools. And this happened while I was switching between tools during a session.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling GIMP, I have tried to remove and change the brushes in the folder, but no matter what, the tools are just skewing my brushes. I love gimp, but I would just use photoshop if I wasn't a poor college student that has no moneys XD.

Please help! Or if anyone else has this issue, maybe we can figure it out together.

When you uninstalled Gimp.
Did this include the removal of the old Gimp User Profile?

Maybe a stupid question, but: did you check the set-up of aspect ratio of the brush in the Tool Options panel? is it at the default 0.0?

Oh my god I am so stupid thats what it was!!!!

But the airbrush tool is stil doing the same thing, even after fixing the aspect ratio

Glad you solved (partially) your problem.
I don't use airbrush, so I've no competence on that subject, hopefully some other will help you.

My guess, you have the share option unticked in Edit -> Preferences -> Tool Options

or are you using a tablet which will have separate settings between mouse/tablet.
