GIMP Version: 2.10
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: New User

The "open image" dialog doesn't allow me to open drives. The drives are shown on the left hand menu, but neither the local disk "C", or USB drives do anything when clicked on.

I can open an image by dragging it into GIMP, but when I go to save the image I can only save to the "owner" folder, none of the drives will open, no matter how assiduously I click on them. I have installed GIMP 2.10 on a W7 and a W8 computer and both installations do the same thing.

thanks

I use Samj's portable and I have the same problem. It doesn 't recognize my USB drive. I can open the drive in Windows and drag the image into Gimp but when I try to export, I have to export to the desktop then drag it to my USB.

I have samj's portable on Windows 10.

OPEN sort of works with the suggested workarounds. I can get by. But SAVE and EXPORT don't work at all. There is absolutely no indication where files are going to be saved. This makes 2.10 virtually unusable for me.

do you mean that you do not get this window when asking for "exporting" a file?

About USB drive Erisian is right: it is seen as a device but does not open the files list inside, to add a new one

edit: also the other units are seen but not opened for saving.
I tought it was claimed that the units were not seen, sorry; no, they are seen but NOT opened for saving...aha
Hence, Erisian's solution is the only way to export on something different from -let's say- Desktop: an intermediate step is needed.

(so far, my activity was always involving the Desktop, just by chance)

At least I'm glad that I am not the only one. I was thinking that there was a radio button that I hadn't pushed yet.
And I don't speak French . . .

Thanks. I'll give it a go when I can download it.

I don't use my C: drive for data, images, etc. And can't save to D,E,F, etc.
And even in my user folder on the C: drive I can't navigate the sub folders.

It is a known bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=795855 and to judge by the number of duplicate bugs, a much reported bug.

Generally I use linux, but keep Win 7 / Win 10 VMs for testing. Gimp 2.10.0 installed a little while ago, no problem, opens files, writes files to usb drive...anything.

Wondering why I have no issues

Two updates since the original installer I used: gimp-2.10.0-x64-setup.exe

Image

and sure enough that last one gimp-2.10.0-setup-1.exe (has 32 bit support for plugins) creates the file opening/ saving problem.

Try going back to an earlier version until it is sorted out.

look in https://download.gimp.org/mirror/pub/gi ... 0/windows/

Rich,
after your post I downloaded/installed using the setup-1.exe (144M), but I wasn't so lucky as you, still the problem of not opening/saving on other folders than those directly accessible by the user (desktop, images, …) is there.
Even setting the program to run as administrator.
I'll wait for a new Samj's pack (she is in vacation now, so it seems…)

Read it again. setup-1.exe is the problem.

Try an older version, eg the original ..x64-setup.exe

the one you mention is related to the RC2, not the final 2.10.0, for which there are two entries, the gimp-2.10.0-setup-1.exe (tried before with no luck) and the gimp-2.10.0-setup.exe (tried now, still no luck).

Not related to RC2 look at the dates

...setup-1.exe 5 May
...setup.exe 4 May
...x64-setup.exe 29 April

If setup.exe (4 May) has the same problem, saves me trying it out.
