Hi,
I'm trying to recover an unsaved image with many layers BEFORE gimp is crashing.
Gimp is still running on my system, but is stuck since 2 hours because I tried to use the Cage Transform tool. I know there is a known bug with it, but my problem now is that I don't want to let to gimp to close and lose my job.
I know that once gimp is closed, any unsaved work is lost forever, but in my case I have the program still open, but unresponsive, so I'm wondering if there is some way to avoid to lose my edited image.
Is there a temporary file somewhere? Can I use some scritpt to extract the unsaved file in some way? Can I read the memory RAM and restore the gimp state in a successive run? Anything???
I found a gimpswap.XXXX file in the ~/.gimp folder, that I bet is a memory swap file gimp it uses to create temporary backups, can I save it and restore it in some way? Of course that file is binary, so I can hexdump it, but how to reinterpret the hexadecimal code inside it?
Please help
I'm not a Linux user.
However,
if I refresh my desktop.
This sometimes brings GIMP back form being "stuck".
Another thing that has worked for me in Windows.
Is to hit the Windows Key,
to bring up the Windows Start Menu.
I don't know if there is equivalent actions within Linux,
that can be used to do the above mentioned things,
done within the Windows environment.
With this said.
I don't know of any way to recover an unsaved image created using Gimp.
If it was indeed saved,
it wouldn't require recovery.
There is an Auto Save script and or plug-in,
that can be installed.
Nevertheless,
this is a moot point,
after the fact.
