Hello all, I just updated to 2.10.4 and am trying to delete everything but a tree from a photo I too so I can use it somewhere else. So far I've been cutting out bits using the free select tool and then deleting when I get a sizable selection picked out. Now, when I close the slection with the lasso there is a solid line around the selection but it doesn't become the active dotted line showing that it's selected that bit, UNTIL, I go and choose the move tool and then get my pointer somewhere near the selection, at which point the selection goes live, I hit delete, re-select the lasso and move to the next section.

This added step is really slowing down the process. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'm not even close to a master of GIMP so it's probably something ridiculous and simple. fwiw, I did look at the other free select tool posts and nothing rang a bell, or seems to have helped.

Hi DerCribben, in Gimp 2.10 you have to hit the enter key to get the selection active.
Maybe there are other ways, but that's how I do it.

Lasso tool works well on one image - finish "lassoing", hit enter, then, for example, cut selected portion. It disappears - however on another image, beginning the same way leads to selected portion, but no functions work: cut, copy, etc.

Help appreciated

Is the selection tool in "Normal" mode (vs subtract/intersect)? On the image here it doesn't work is there already a selection?
