I recently have gotten the wacom intous drawing tablet and decided to use gimp for do digital art. While trying to draw two persistent problems have continued to appear for me:

1) I can't get pressure sensitivity to work on Gimp. I have my tablet on screen mode on input devices and also have used the basic dynamic brush and my own personal brush with the settings set on Opacity/Pressure and Size/Pressure, but still see no changes to the brush when I apply pressure in my tablet.

2) Sometimes while I'm in the middle of drawing Gimp decides to take my inputs from tablet as "left clicks", I don't really have any idea as to how to solve this problem and don't know as to what is the cause.

First thing to test is if the tablet works correctly outside of GIMP. I don't use Windows myself, but if your tablet came with a CD maybe there is a testing utility there you can use just to make sure it reports events correctly.

It sounds like you have configered GIMP's input settings. Just to check - you should have the "stylus" device assigned ("eraser" works too, and can be put to any other tool, not just the eraser).

Make sure you have the latest Wacom drivers installed too.

Pressing your pen to the surface should indeed be equivalent to a "Left click" so not sure what you mean there. No input should happen with the pen tip completely lifted off the tablet, if you get "spurious lines" in the process of lifting the pen, you need to adjust your pressure curve (but since pressure is not working that seems unlikely).

My Wacom driver says its up to date (6.3.30-6) and I try doodling in Sketchpad and it was able to sense pressure and also registered every line I drew. In Gimp I have the stylus and now eraser set to "screen". Gimp still has problems detecting pressure and also detecting inputs form my tablet, problems that did not appear in the sketchpad.

koalsandro, you are not the only one to have had this issue. Many other people from as far back as 2011 (that I can see) have also had an issue with gimp, pressure etc. Although they must have eventually worked out what the problem was. I had a quick look before and many are solved. Search for Wacom and the problems other people have had may help you as you read through them.

Although no artist, I have a Wacom Bamboo tablet and I use Windows - this may help.
I am currently using Gimp 2.10.4 but was using these settings with Gimp 2.8.22 - think you would be better off with a more recent version of 2.8 unless you have compelling reasons to stick with 2.8.14.

The settings that I had to play about with were the individual curve mappings for each property in the matrix. As you can see the opacity curve, in particular, was quite a dramatic change from the default setting.

Perhaps changes to these settings may provide some help - but, as I said earlier, I do think you may well have to update your version of Gimp.

I finally was able to find the solution after watching multiple tutorials. The reason my tablet was having all these problems in gimp was because I needed to have the tablet turned on before starting Gimp. The answer was so easy, no wonder I couldn't find the solution, hahaha.

Im not entirely convinced what you did is what you think it is.
For example: i can stroke a path with a pressuresensitive Size brushdynamic and get a tapered stroke.
I can stroke a path with a pressuresensitive Opacity and get a faded stroke at both ends.
I can stroke a path with velocitysensitive Size and get a tapered stroke.
I can stroke a path with velocitysensitive Opacity and get a faded stroke.

However, with my pressuresensitive tablet (Wacom Intuos) i dont get pressure and size (but velocitysensitive and size).
So maybe pressuresensitivity is still broken, but somehow Gimp applies it to strokes.

It's quite possible that other factors were at work - although as you can see nothing set to velocity and I was being quite careful to keep at a steady pace and just vary the amount of pressure when moving the pen.
