I guess I have to create a new topic, because it's not correct IMO to continue using doron's thread which was concerning a different problem.
People who want to use old plug-ins in Gimp 2.10.4 may have a look at the various packages prepared by Samj on the usual site containing old plug-ins recompiled for 2.10.4.

If someone wants to try and check, is welcome.
I did a try and it works (Win 64bits).
Lyle did a try and got errors.
Remember to move the folder which contains both the .exe and the required .dll.

OK, Diego. I placed the focus blur plugin (w/ DLL) into the GIMP plugins folder instead of the user plugins folder and voila, it worked. Strange. Not sure why location matters. Regardless, I'm happy about this plugin now working. Thanks for the link to samj's compiles by the way. As always, she's the bomb.

Toy blur works too when placed in the GIMP plugins directory instead of user folder plugins directory. Discovered something new I suppose. More reasons not to use 2.8x. lol

Maybe when you'll have time (when?...you are always so busy…) you will post a little tutorial on how to use focus-blur and which are the differences/benefits with respect to the usual gaussian blur and selections. Thanks.

Have to do my 10 hour in about an hour and I have to pull a 14 hour tomorrow.

Anyway, basically I used layer mask to emphasize areas that I want more of the focus blur at (background and distance) along with regular guassian blur as needed. Below's a result where I did just that.

For something that simple, you can just apply a black/white gradient on the layer mask.

Indeed, that's how I did it, Racer-X. Actually did so for 2 different layers and different ways (one for the focus blur and one for the Gaussian blur).
