List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
Filters / Light And Shadow / Drop Shadow


Has anyone else noticed this is not putting the shadows on a separate layer? It seems like a bug but I need to know if this is only happening to me before I report it.

That is the way it is meant to work. It is a GEGL filter that renders on the canvas so you can see exactly what is applied.

However, you are not the first to complain. see: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/issues/1584

and there is still the legacy drop shadow available if you do not like the new version.

There is also Long Shadow, which I think is very cool.....
