I like having a clear workspace so I use hotkeys to open dockable dialogue boxes. I use Ctrl+Q to open the color select window. After you open the dialogue windows however you have to click the X button to close the window again. I was wondering if there was a way to make the same hotkey open and close the window. Meaning, open the window when it's not open, close the window when it's open. I was able to do this in photoshop, so I'm naturally interested in doing the same thing in Gimp. Anyone figure out a way to do this?

Thanks.

I tried there doesn't seem to be away to close any opened window at all using short cut other than Alt-F4. But if it's not it's own window like if it's in a tab then Alt-F4 will try to close your whole GIMP down.

Couldn't you get away with short cut key to open dialog window such as colors then another short cut key to go back to usual Layer's dialog?

Escape key is better than Alt-F4 it cancels it if color is opened. and doesn't exit GIMP.

@sallyanne. Hmm, for some reason the Esc key doesn't close the dialog windows. You'd think it would.

@trandoductin Alt+F4 does close the individual windows, but that's a bit harder for me to press quickly.

I just noticed that Gimp has an option to hide all dialogue windows. Maybe I'll have to settle for that for now.

Hide all dialogue windows acts as a toggle.

On Linux Ubuntu I can just adjust system settings and instead of Alt-F4 make it anything I want.
You're on Windows so you might try using AutoHotKey which I think can override any key with any other keys

Hmm, I'll check that out. Ah, you're making me miss linux. I tried it after I got rid of my pirated copy of windows. I was surprised at how well it worked. Felt like I had joined some secret society.
