Tools stopped working

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Hi,
first of all this is my first post here.
I have following problem:
my painting tool, brush, eraser stoped working all of the sudden. If I activate them, the pointer just stands still on the window and is not moving, when I am moving the mouse nor it is doing anything.
Following things I checked:
- using the right layer
- using the right mask (if any)
- selection is on "none"
- I de-installed and re-installed GIMP, but problem remains
- I put most of the settings on reset
Nothing works. I have no clue what I did and how to solve it.
Any ideas?

See if this works.

1.Rename the Gimp User folder.
To something like: .gimp-2.8_old.

The Gimp User Folder is located at:
C:\Users\Your User Name\.gimp-2.8

2.Launch Gimp and it will create a new .gimp-2.8 user folder,
in the same location as the old renamed user folder.

3. Attempt to use Gimp as normal.

Let us know if this action corrects the issue.

Where did you get the version of Gimp from,
that you're using?

From the official site. Worked since November without problems. I guess, I did something wrong, but I can't figure our the mistake...

It could be,
that the installation file was corrupt some how.
Did you use an old installation file to reinstall Gimp,
or did you download a new installation file?

I used the old file, I am downloading the file now again, but this takes a while, the golden firewall makes downloading slow...

I'm not familiar with this fire wall.
It could be causing issues with the file,
while it's being downloaded.
Can you disable it before downloading?

we're talking about the great golden Firewall of China. No, I am certainly not able to disable it ;-)

Ok.
thanks for that bit of information.
I did search for this fire wall and did come up with what you have told me.

Be sure to uninstall Gimp completely.
Before reinstalling the new Gimp.
I would suggest,
using Revo Uninstaller,
to uninstall Gimp.
To make sure that everything is removed form your system,
that is related to Gimp.
Then reinstall Gimp using the new installation file.

Could be a problem with the mouse.. If wireless how good are the batteries?

Ok, after re-installing again GIMP working normally. I wonder really if I did something wrong or it was a glitch.

That's good to hear.

It's difficult to pin-point what my have caused this issue.
I've been using Gimp for a very long time and have never personally encountered this issue.
Could have been something within Windows itself,
or perhaps a program or application you have installed.
However,
this is just a guess.
It could be any number of things that caused this.
