I'm disinclined to put the blame on memory, since I can work in a
much more resource-intensive setting (Clip Studio Paint at 600 dpi in 3' x 3' canvas) with no trouble. (By comparison, I'm working in GIMP at 72 dpi in canvases under 1000 pixels.)
I did go ahead and check, and the lag persists even with other resource-users closed.
