I've downloaded a pack of brushes for GIMP called GIMP Paint Studio (GPS) and only some of the brushes are working. As Far as I can tell all of the brushes using the .gbr and .vbr file formats work, but any brushes using .gih don't work. Before installing GPS I also deleted the base brushes that come with GIMP.

Your files are loaded in the wrong place.
(They can be left where they are and made to work by adding and entry in "Edit > Preferences", but this is not recommended.

Move the brushes to:
C:\Users\"your name"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\brushes\
Refresh the brushes or restart Gimp.

BTW, the extension (gih) is an animated brush.

Ok, I tried this, but now none of the GPS brushes work, and I get the same error message from before.

Are the brushes still contained in a tar file? You should have 3 file types only: .gbr, .gih, .vbr
These 3 file types go into the folder I mentioned.

Not a good idea and not necessary in Gimp 2.10 where brushes can be tagged and sorted.

At a basic level put the GPS brushes in their own folder (say GPS) in C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\brushes Like this:

As far as I can tell they're all .gih .gbr and .vbr files, I don't see any tar files.
