I am thankful for the help I am receiving when stuck in GIMP. I'm stuck again. After reviewing tutorials, I can't find 2 issue;
One, my images seem grainy and small when I print. Scaling up doesn't seem to effect it. I even tried changing from dots to inches. No go.

B, I've exported and saved my work to a particular file. Is there a way to combine 2 files, and all the work within, to make a third file?

I think these are general graphics questions.
"grainy and small when I print" - that looks like the image resolution is too low. If you want quality work you need higher resolution images. This is independent of the physical (Hight x Width). Photos from a digital camera are high resolution while images saved from the net are often quite low.

If you want to save 2 files together then compress with a zip utility. Combining the content of 2 files is something else entirely,

If you are asking can you join 2 XCF workspace files together, you can yes.
Just open the first one, then open the 2nd as layers.

Thanks to you good bloggers, I have many gimp files and projects. But over this past week end the program started to run very slowly. Now, even if I move a layer, a little clock appears and I have to wait 30-40 seconds. Does anyone know why this just started to happen?

Because your system is exhausted. Maybe you have lot of other processes going on while it happens?
Maybe the image is huge or has lot of layers, eating up the RAM?
I'd check the task manager/processes when it happens.
What kind of system do you have?
