GIMP 2.10.12 is not opening on Mac

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Mac OS
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Hi,

I've downloaded the new GIMP 2.10.12 and delete the previous version (!). Then, I've recently updated my Mac with Mojave 10.14.5. After this I couldn't use GIMP.
For ex, I am starting to open the app, then, on the final step I hit Open and wait and wait and GIMP is not opening.
I even downloaded several times from their website but same thing is happening.

Would you please let me know what to do to make it work?

Here is a quote from that page:
"Most of the solutions in here weren't working for me, so I took a shot in the dark... I also had the setting as "Anywhere" and I wasn't getting the "Open anyway" option. As ridiculous as it is, once I changed the setting to only the app store and identified developers, I *did* get the "Open anyway" option."

Goes to show OSX has some hoops to jump thru if you want to use Gimp.

(I use Xubuntu ATM)

Thank you for your answer. I've been through some of the events described on Reddit when I've first installed Gimp, the previous version.

Actually now is going through the last step but is not showing the screen and bars to start working. At the last step I hit Open (is already configured for "App store and trusted developers").
Gimp is in Macintosh HD - Applications; this is the place where I've started when opening the application.

I've took pictures for each step to be more clear in what I want to say.
Because are aloud only 3 pic, I skip some steps and left the beginning and the last one.

GIMP 2.8.18 is working for me on my new macbook OS 10.14.5 ...but cannot install the scripts as yet..I will work on a fix for this. purchased on 28 June 2019

you might need to go to System Preferences, Security and privacy, and check the box that says to allow apps downloaded from identified developers.

I've contacted Apple and sit for about 3-4 hours and check everything possible on Mac in order to open Gimp (latest release) and they couldn't find any solution.

So, I get back to previous version and that's it for the moment.

I have found the earlier version to work, 2.8.18 but I want to add my brushes, scripts, gradients etc and haven't found a work round for that...usually Apple are not really interested in helping 3rd party software issues..Good Luck and let us know what, if anything, they did to help you

Hello. GIMP 2.10.12 only seems to work when it's in the /Applications folder or users desktop, it won't open otherwise (it simply crashes and quits by itself). Previous version (2.10.10) works just fine in any folder. These are the crash logs I got when I tried to run gimp/gimp-bin directly, maybe it helps:

It looks like Gimp 2.10.12 goes in the applications folder a specific way and then the steps required to run it.

But then, I am only a dumb linux user who does not have this problem

I am running the latest version of Gimp and macOS Catalina. I had the same problem and resolved it simply by;

SOLUTION

1. Ensuring security and privacy/general was set to 'allow apps downloaded from App Store and identified developers' was enabled.

2. Install the app on the desktop and open from there.
