He can't tell you what was the message and you don't know what he did, it would be better if he register/sign in here
Anyway, if it does not want to instal and/or get a "NO" >> it's certainly because he downloaded the version for Apple Silicon and your friend has an Intel Chip (his iMac is from 2019, Apple Silicon was introduced late 2020).
He should download the one for Intel
