OS Version: win 11 pro

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
g'mic
fractal explorer

Hello:

Long time user of Gimp and G'mic; I decided to try and install an older version of G'mic because it seems they changed a lot of the formulae and my results just aren't as good as they were a couple years ago.

I installed G'mic and my favorite filter "fractal explorer" is gone from Gimp 2.10!! What!?

I can't figure out how to get it back either. I just updated Gimp to 2.10.38

Please help, tyia!

GIMP or G'MIC?
G'MIC will never remove a filter from GIMP, nor touch its configuration...

Let's start with G'MIC, I found many fractals by searching "fractal" in the top search box

Now in GIMP, go to Filters > Render > Fractals > Fractal Explorer...

A window opens... Fractal Explorer

Thank you for the reply. I don't know what happened, I just know uninstalling g'mic removed the fractal explorer in gimp. Here's an image of what shows up in my gimp:Image

All that is listed under filters > render > noise and pattern. That's it. It's possible this was part of a plugin package I installed years ago and somehow it got corrupted with the g'mic uninstall- reinstall.

Maybe @Ofnuts could give me some insight as well, that would be great.

Thanks again

FractalExplorer is part of the standard GIMP installation.
It has nothing to do with GMIC.

@FractalGiant

Looks like you have lost a few plug-ins
First thing is check the path in Edit -> Preferences -> Folders -> Plug-ins Do you have the path that points to your installation ?
then
Look in the Gimp installation and check that the fractal plugins exist.

If all that is correct, then you need to start Gimp up in a terminal look for error messages.

Thank you for the response.

So weird. I installed gimp 3.0 and it has fractal explorer but no g'mic. I reinstalled 2.10
and it has g'mic and no fractal explorer. The "fractal explorer" folder is empty, no .exe. I can't figure this business out; the terminal output says "plugins must be installed in subdirectories".

AFAIK refers to GIMP 3.x, not 2.10 ?

Maybe your GIMP download is corrupted.
Where did you download it from?
Maybe try another mirror?
