Hi i am new to gimpchat.com and a friend reccommended me to this site she goes by miss tricks and i love her video tutorials they help me out greatly, but ive run into some problems being an amature photoshop artist. I was wondering if anyone knows of a game called second life or possibly IMUV since they are some what similar when it comes to skin editing, i know most great skin editors use adobe, but i am poor and i can not afford that but i have learned that i can do a great deal of things on gimp thanks to miss tricks. there are video's that you can catch a glimpse of on youtube.com to see what second life skin templates look like. but i just need to find out how to make mine better, ive tried many things and yet i can not make them look better and i hope to make them look more realistic like real human skin or close to. Im working really hard but not hard enough i guess but if anyone knows of any video's that might help me learn how to take photos of real skin and add them and blend them in with my painted skin on the template on gimp i would greatly appreciate the help!! :tyspin

example posted below

and i know that it looks good here but when i upload it to secondlife the quality is shot down and it doesnt look so great, and thus why i ask for help :p

Maybe you could ask the artists on second life who don't have your problems what kind of files they upload.
Maybe, but I'm just guessing here, it's a case of how second life reduces the quality. If you reduce the quality yourself before you upload you might get better results.

I was on a forum once where they only allowed 10kb for a sig. If you uploaded a nice looking png file the forum software reduced it to 10kb and it looked horrible. If I made it a .jpg file with the size of 10kb in gimp the quality was often much better then what the forum did to it.

Welcome to gimpchat. :)

Youtube has at least 7 or 8 second life using Gimp tutorials that I found with a basic search so i know they're out there.

My "Save for Web" video tells you how to lower the filesize and save as jpg. It's a bit of a messy video but once you try to do the same thing yourself you'll understand why. It's very hard to get the preview pop up window to show up on top.

Your electrifying water tut was very electrifying, Jolie. It's 3:30 am here and one of those nights when I know I won't sleep for the next 4 or 5 nights straight. Watching your videos always makes me feel good. After I experiment with your water ripples for a while my brain will be happy to give in and let the rest of me sleep. You may have saved my night.

You can search for videos on someone's channel in the top right corner just above the list of videos.

Here's the save for web video.

can you select by color just the text, select invert, edit clear? Also, if you just want to test, why not must make your own text in a new project page?
