... that desaturate doesn't turn coloured photos to grey anymore - unless you flatten them first. I usually get green/blue.
Only time I want to desturate coloured photos is when enhancing through highpass etc. Or is there some other way?

Location: Native to NYC living in Arizona, Gimp 2.8 - 3.0, Win 11 PC.
I have GIMP 3.0.4 installed and don't experience this issue.
You could convert the layer to RGB (perceptual) before desaturating,
to see if this helps.
You'll find this under the "layer right-click menu"
LayerComposite SpaceRGB (perceptual)
This might prevent the green/blue issue.

I think by flattening the image,
forces it back into a composited display color profile,
so desaturation behaves normally.
This is why i think “flatten image” magically fixes it.
