Adding Borders to an image

OS Version: XP - SP3
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

HOW DO I ADD COOL BORDERS TO AN IMAGE? I SAW THE ONE VID. ON YOUTUBE WITH THE PICTURE WITH THE ROUNDED CORNERS. IM LOOKING FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT LIKE A RAINBOW BORDER OR ZEBRA PRINT FOR EXAMPLE. OH AND ON A REGULAR PICTURE NOT ONE WITH ROUNDED BORDERS OR ANYTHING SPECIAL LIKE THAT.

Unlock the caps lock key on your keyboard
"Image->Canvas Size..." - increase the width and height, and then center
"Layer->New Layer" - the created layer will be the same size as your image
"Layer->Stack->Layer to bottom" - tuck it behind the other layer(s)
Fill the new layer with your rainbow or zebra pattern

Did you say you wanted a rainbow zebra. Here's one using the mats and frame script. Is that what you are looking for?

What i do for quick borders is
select / all
select shrink (click select from image border) to whatever size you want your inside border to be i use 25-50 mostly.
Depends on the size of your image.
Select/border - same size as shrink
Edit/fill with pattern
select none.
To make it more interesting you can add a circle selection in the middle and select/invert and fill with pattern if you choose.

Just a quick way i do it sometimes. :ninja
