Greetings!

I've been trying to figure out how to give my metallic skull friend with the fire eye some glass in front of the fire.

So it would kind of give the illusion of the eyes being glass but with fire inside. This is metal head here:


I have the selections for the both the right and left eye socket save in the paths. I'm just interested on how to go about doing this. Just point me to what I should be looking at and I'll give it a whirl!

Use a gradient fill.White and white
Foreground to transparent.
Play with the opacity

White should be your fg color and bg color.

If yu wanna make your own eyeballs you can do it easily using these gradients. I can't remember where I got these but they are made specifically for making eyeballs. Green, Blue or Brown.

Make yourself a circle using the ellipse tool on a transparent layer and set the gradient to Radial and stroke from the center to the edge. Instant eyeball.

Dress it up with a diagonal gradient to make it look more 3D, make another transparent layer for the Lightning brushes to make the red veins and then put a small circle of white with a gaussian blurr set to about 70 for the glare and there you have it.

To make another one just duplicate, Layer>Transform>Flip Horizontally and move the layers to the desired spacing. You can always make them a little more creepy by adding a color overlay or mask.

Thanks for the other eyeball idea but I was going for clear semi transparent. Only pain in the butt was having to move the layers around and re-ordering them and then pasting the skull into each of the fire layers! Grrrrrrrrrr! But I did it!

You may want to consider using colored lenses using Rod's method. I used Filters > Decor > Add Bevel to the results and lowered the opacity just a little.

Now I understand! I saw what he did but didn't understand what the output would look like. <-- Probably the reason I'm not a very good artist <O.o> And thank for the tip!

I may actually revisit this again and make it so the 'eyes' are actually flaming not the whole socket. I think that would look pretty neat!

I wish I had a flat panel that I could hang on my apt door for halloween night! Although I think the complex mgnt would have a problem with me drilling holes in the door!

YW. JFYI, I'm a ma'am.

That is why i always use a gradient for glass.That way you still show a bit of glare.Glass isn't always smoky looking on the entire surface.Unless they are fogged up from winter.
I would probably even place a white shape on the lens and set the opacity real low to give a bit of shine
