Looking for a tutorial of how to paint snow onto text. And a possible script/plug-in that could be created with this effect if that is possible?
I like the example here: http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/ ... 48#/d6wvqk
would like to learn how to do something like this :)
Sorry I am still a beginner and please don't make me feel stupid for not knowing all the right lingo.

There is a very good script by FP for snow, in fact I used it for my sig and avatar. It is in the attachment below. I will look up some of the painting snow on text I have somewhere.
Just place this in your C:\Users\your name\.gimp-2.6\scripts folder.

Molly, I downloaded that same script and installed it but I never did figure out where it shows up. I even went to help and looked in the browser thingy and nothing came up for anything named "animated snow".

By the way I think what annaica is looking for is putting the snow on top of each letter rather than the snowfall effect. I don't know of any script that will do that but there are plenty of fonts around that already have the snow on them like "igloo" or "modus frigid" etc., etc.

I usually just paint it in, add a few icicles, shadows, some bump mapping etc until I get it like I want it. Here's a sig I made recently. I was happy with the snow part but the text didn't look that much like ice. Just click on the image to see the detail on the snow.

Thanks Molly i didn't have that one :)
Draconian you can find out where any script installs by opening it in your editor and look for the line that contains...

(script-fu-register "script-fu-name-here"
"<Image>/Filters/the name of the filter menu here... "

This one is found at
(script-fu-register "script-fu-snow-anim"
"<Image>/Filters/Animation/Animators/Animated Snow..."

I have a tutorial here somewhere using the plasma filter to create ice text.

Thanks Molly. I had to download it again cuz what I had in my user 2.6 folder was some other file instead of the scm. Must have been corrupted when I downloaded it the first time. Now it's all mo bedder gooder!

Thanks for the heads up Rod. I never think to do that.

Thank you annaica. I'm not a tenth of the artist that some of these folks here are so it pleases me that you liked it so much. I sent you a PM with a few steps to try. If it was not clear enough just let me know and I'll see if I can throw something together.
