if you use the portable you have to start from gimprun.exe not from gimp.exe

If you are using the standard version looks as the installer was corrupted, i would reinstall

For save gimp 2.7 is different from old gimp 2.6 (you can't "save you must "export") but no difference for open, if you can't open my guess is that gimp was not correctly installed

Can you let me know what you did to install 2.7.5? For example, uninstall previous versions, add any DLLs etc. Since what you mention should not happen, something unusual is happening here, do you agree? I need more information.

Thanks,
Partha

You are using the standard version that means you have to take care to find and remove any .gimp folder (meaning the gimp user folder hidden in document and setting your name or for 7 users/yourname

there can be incompatible dll or plugin, as default the standard version try to import everything from any prior gimp version that often create problems...
or there was some adsl problem during the download, usually the browser detect incomplete download but not if the differences are tiny

but to make life easier i would just use the portable ..no problem of incompatible dll or enviromental path and not disadvantage if installed on the main drive

Did you uninstall Gimp 2.7.4 before installing 2.7.5? We can take this offline and go from there. However, please try the following. Completely uninstall 2.7.5. Take care and make sure that the folder where you installed is completely deleted. Now rename any .gimp-2.7 folder that you have temporarily to something line mygimpstuff. Now reinstall Gimp 2.7.5. Restart and see if everything is as you expect. Now you can add your stuff one at a time to find out which application/plugin is not allowing you to open those different file formats.

Will be not also the case before reinstall to delete any .gimp-2.6 folder where may be incompatible dll ?
The standard version will try to import from there if the folder exist.

Again i bet that all problems will vanish if using the portable version but i understand that may be some prejudice against portable version

(i never understand why especially in case of beta version, since the only disadvantage of portable appear by use them on external drive..,in that case the usb connection may slow down, but may be avoided by installing on the main HD
But is also true that prejudices doesn't need to be supported by logic reasons )

May be another problem some antivirus doesn't like some files in gimp...are false postive but the point is another, according to the setting used antivirus may be working silently and so delete needed files without give warning

Panda antivirus is even worst, advice when deleting files (in case the messages is not to clear, is needed read save and readthe log file to decipher what exactly was deleted.) BUT doesn't offer any undo option

So may be that
1) disconnect to the net to safety close all antivirus
2) install gimp

may solve.. not sure what will happen when restarting the antivirus but may be worth try at least to be sure of what cause the problem

PC this could be the problem. Some aggressive anti-virus program actually delete exe files without your permission. Go figure.

Maybe for 7 disabling antivirus when installing may be sufficient , hopefully the lock of 7 on program files will override antivirus
(not tested i prefer unistall dumb antivirus that works too silently)

Where did you download 2.7.5 from? It sounds like you have two different compiles of the same Gimp-2.7 version installed.
I would do as PC has stated and download the Portable from Parthas website.
It works exactly the same without the install headaches. You even get Python. :)
Also it has it's own gimp 2 directory(within the portable directory tree), so you can add resources to that folder tree and not worry about anything vital being moved around.

That is my suggestion.

I agree with what Rod said. Works very well, I love the one window option too.

The regular version comes with python too. :)
