Help, please

GIMP Version: 2.6.7
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 7
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

ERROR: Unable to upload image.

I just downloaded GIMP 2.6.7 ( I think, that was the version) for Windows 7 to my computer last night and I've been having a problem with it.
Basically, I've been trying to upload my less-than-amatuerish manga style artwork to the internet all night and every time, I've been unable to. Idk if this has to do with codes or scripts or plugins. In fact, I know next to nothing about computer tech stuff other than how to use them for the basic essentials, but everywhere I've tried -- Facebook, Fotoflexer, Photobucket, and DeviantArt -- have all given me the same error message with a little blank piece of paper icon with the title and file-size of my artwork listed below it.
Am I doing something wrong and if so, can you please help me fix it?

Need a little more info in order to help. What siz is your image (in pixels and resolution) and what format is it saved as? jpg, gif, png, etc.

Kurangirl021, chances are your file is not saved as a .jpg, but a .xcf. In gimp try clicking file>>>save as>>>and change the .xcf in the file name to .jpg. Click ok through the quality and such.

This will save a copy of your image as a .jpg, which will upload on these sites.

What is the error message? The blank piece of paper icon probably means the file is missing.

If you just download gimp you downloaded a obsolete version last is 2.6.11

anyway working with gimp you must save as XCF (that help for further edit correction etc) BUT you ALSO need to save again" as jpg or png to have a file good for the web

If you decide to ever upgrade to the newest BETA test version of Gimp-2.7.5 you will need to click EXPORT to save as any image format other than XCF.
Save As - Gimp workfile XCF
Export As - image format

Also, some sites have a rather low size limit for uploads, whatever the format.
