Copy multiple selection on individual layers

Operating System: Windows
OS Version: XP - SP3
GIMP Experience: Intermediate Level

Hi all,

How can I select multiple regions of a geographical map on individual layers so that I can paste them into a powerpoint presentation on one page?

My try was to use the alpha to selection on layers individually, copy and then paste into powerpoint; but I ended up with overlaping edges along the borders of regions of the map. Re-aligning them manually does not seem to give me good match.

I have attached my .xcf file for your perusal.

I will appreciate.

Hi ofnuts,

It merged all lagers, but I want to copy regions and end up with something like in the attached file.
