Hi All,

I made a selection in the included image, using Gimp's Selection Editor.

Here's the problem: the eye bowls, teeth & collar are of the same colour as the white background that is discarded. Consequently they appear in transparent when the selection is pasted in another image. I would like to keep those 3 elements in white full opacity.

By chance I could realize it & afterwards, I've tried several ways using mask layers, additional layers... without being able to reproduce it.

Could somebody help me by telling what's going wrong? Txs.

Try saving it as a png instead of a jpg.

Hi.

Don't use the selection by color, that will select (with a threshold) the same color.
Use the magic wand instead. I don't know it in english, my version is german... - see picture)
With the shift-key pressed while selecting, the selection is added. Pressing the ctrl-key while selecting,
the selection is subtracted.
So select the background with the shift key, so that all parts of the background are selected.
Leave out eyes, collar, teeth.
Is that, what you want?

Very good video Rich. I didn't realize she wanted the black part removed, I was wondering if that should be there.
That is the same way I did it but saved it as a png, she had it saved as a jpg.
Alpha transparency is supported in the PNG format.

By the way, to make the green layer, I added a new transparent layer below the image and filled it with a color.
