GIMP Version: 2.6.11
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: W7 - 64-bit - Home Premium SP1
GIMP Experience: Intermediate Level

I recently downloaded and installed GIMP 2.8 and have been having problems with the single-window interface opening way too wide - and extending past the right side of my monitor screen... I have to drag the program across the screen several times with my mouse - before I can view the right side of the interface and the second toolbar...

I uninstalled and reinstalled the program - and the problem seemed to have been corrected... But - after several uses - the problem came back...

I've tried to locate the file that controls the interface size - but have been unable to locate it...

I have attached a snapshot of how the the program is displayed when it opens...

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated...

I believe your system monitor resolution is set too big.
Gimp reads the monitor size, and adjusts to fit width and height upon max sizing.

Try Edit>Preferences>Display and let Gimp auto set your resolution for Gimp.

Thanks - but I had tried to edit the display prefrences before I submitted the problem - it didn't work...

As for my screen resolution - it is set at 1600x1200 - which is the lowest setting I can use with my computer monitor - without getting a black bar on the right side of my screen - and having the left side of my screen cut off... Unfortunately my screen won't strech to fit at any lower resolution...

Are you using a theme? If so switch it to Gimp default and see what happens.

I have the same problem with default theme - as well as the third party themes...

If I delete the files in the .gimp-2.8 folder and reinstall the program - it fixes the problem temporarily - but after I use the program a few times - the problem returns...

I am only having this problem in the single-window mode... So far - I have not had this problem with the three window mode - it has been working normally...

Could you please paste your sessionrc file here in code tags for me?
You will find it in the User/.gimp-2.8 folder.

Have you tried clicking edit>>>preferences and clicking I the save window position button after manually changing where your windows go?

I have the same issue. The window can't be resized. Looks like it is locked into a wide-screen mode.

sessionrc info:

# GIMP sessionrc
#
# This file takes session-specific info (that is info, you want to keep
# between two GIMP sessions). You are not supposed to edit it manually, but
# of course you can do. The sessionrc will be entirely rewritten every time
# you quit GIMP. If this file isn't found, defaults are used.

This seems incorrect to me for your resolution set at 1600x1200.

Delete the sessionrc file and restart Gimp. Go to windows>Tick single window mode.Resize the window the way you want it.Then go to Edit>Preferences>Window Management, and select save window positions on exit.

Restart Gimp and re post your sessionrc file again please.

Thanks.

If that doesn't work open Gimp and go to Edit>Preferences>Windows Management> un tick save window positions on exit and restart Gimp. That should re write the sessionrc file. Now try to go to Windows>single window mode.
Adjust your window and re tick the save windows position selection.Restart Gimp again. The window should open in single window mode at your correct width and height at every start now.

Deleting the sessionrc file and editing the prefrences in the Window Management section seems to have worked... I've open and closed GIMP several times - and have not had the problem reoccur...

Thanks for the help - it was greatly appreciated...
