Brand new to this. Spent a few hours playing and can't seem to find if it stitches photos. Can anyone help. Also does this program take the skew out of poor photos. Not much of a photographer either, but when I take pics of my paintings and upload them to gimp they are all skewed down the side which distorts the painting. Any help most appreciated.

What format do you use to save your Pic? jpg, png,bmp, gif, tif?
A screenshot would be most helpful to see what sort of distortion you mean by "skew".

Not sure what "stitch" means. We have a script that will Blend several photos into one panoramic pic, or you can simply use the Move tool to place them side by side, or maybe you mean something else.

Technically you can't really stitch photos with plain Gimp because stitching photos taken by rotating along an axis (yourself or a tripod) requires some precise geometric transform to obtain a good match(*)(**).

The best way to stitch pictures is to use some panorama software. If the OpenSource word, most people use a software called Hugin.

(*) You can however stitch rather easily pictures taken with a good lens if they are all take while lenses all have a rigorously parallel axis, typically you can shoot the front of houses in a street walking down the opposite pavement and stitch the results as long as the lens was always perpendicular to the street axis. So it's easy for the software but requires very controlled shooting conditions.

(**) and if the pictures include close objects, the camera should be rotated around the "nodal point" of the lens to make stitching these close objects possible. This requires a specific tripod head.

Thanks all for those replies. It answers some of my questions. Here is a pic of the skewing I am talking about on my paintings. No matter how square on i get with my tripod and cheap little camera, the sides of the painting are always pushed out at the sides which distorts the picture. I need to push the sides back in again to straighten them up.

Try going to full editor, beside submit. Then go to top of page where you see the upload file icon, click that, search to where the file is you want to upload, then click add, after you see the link, click submit.There are also icons above to place your image left > center or right

Aha. So there it is above. So you can see the distortion along the sides. Can gimp restore this to its original shape please.

I think the cage tool word work, if you can figure out how to work it. I got a couple sides to straighten, then it started to go wonky on me.

For Windows ICE is great software for panoramas.
