Does this dialog box actually do anything when using text?

GIMP Version: 2.6.11
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: Vista 64 SP2
GIMP Experience: Intermediate Level

Hello!

In the image below the small dialog box that appears when you use text. Does it actually do anything?? There are arrows for all of the different adjustments but none of them work.

And .. it really gets in the way!

Not sure what you mean by "arrows", but here is a video explaining the new text tool in 2.8

Thanks video got it .. have to highlight the text in order for anything to work. Grrrrrrr!

And by arrows I meant the adjustment arrows.
