How Do You Delete Brushes

GIMP Version: 2.8
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: XP - SP3
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

Hello,

I am new to Gimp and just installed the latest version.

What I need help with is I am trying to delete a few brushes but unable to do so. I see the delete brush icon at the bottom of the brushes window, but when clicked to delete a brush, nothing happens. It looks like it is an inactive icon (looks faded). Right clicking on the brush does not work either ('delete' in the drop down menu is greyed out).

One of the brushes is from a set of cloud brushes I added and with it came a brush with the signature of the person who created it, which I don't need. If I go to the downloaded folder on my computer, the file is an abr file and I only see one icon that will not open on my computer vs. seeing the entire set of brushes that came in that zip file, so deleting via the folder itself is not possible.

My other question is I was playing around with one of the brushes on a blank canvas. I then removed what I had done to try another brush but then noticed what I had just done showed up as a new brush. I did not do anything to my knowledge to create a new brush, was just painting on the canvas and then removed it by way of select all and cut...so I have no idea how that automatically then turned into a new brush, and I am unable to delete that one as well. I even clicked on "refresh brushes" and nothing changed. It may be too hard to tell what the heck I did to create a new brush with that one, but in any case...just need to figure out how to delete these brushes or any others in the future.

GIMP has this neat feature where it keeps your current clipboard as a brush. So anytime you cut or copy, this will happen and the image will change.

If you got .abr brushes those are a photoshop kind of thing, I don't even know how to touch that one. I just work around the artists signature brushes to get what I want out of the brush pack while being grateful GIMP supports abr brush packs. But then again, I'm not 'tidy'.

If you have added the brushes in the Gimp installation tree (usually c:\Program files\Gimp...) then for Gimp they are read-only and you have to delete them using your file explorer. If you added them to your Gimp profile (c:\Documents and settings\{your_id}\.gimp-2.8\brushes) then you should be able to delete them in the Brushes list.
