GIMP Version: 2.8.2
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: Windows 7 64-bit
GIMP Experience: Intermediate Level

Hello, everyone! I've been trying to figure out if there is a way to input values in the toolbox the way I use to be able to in earlier version of GIMP where I click once and type in a value. For example, I want to set a Layer opacity to 50% but when I click on the field it maddeningly selects just the numbers past the decimal point or moves the graphic slider to a value near my mouse pointer. I have to double or triple click to get it to select the whole number and type in a clean value. Even double or triple clicking, it often still selects just the numbers before or after the decimal point or after I type my value and press enter, I accidentally somehow click the slider and lose my value.

This new behavior of the input fields has slowed down my workflow by at least 50% and is giving me carpal tunnel. I am desperately in search of a way to restore the field input to its previous behavior, but see no way to do so. Can I at least turn off the sliders if nothing else or force it to whole numbers with no decimal point?

I would hate to have to roll back to an earlier version of GIMP because I am in love with a Normal Map plugin I found that only works in the newer versions. Any and all help is appreciated very much. Thanks in advance!

After clicking on the slider -- anywhere on the slider -- even though the slider will move to your mouse pointer location and the numeric display is not highlighted, you can type in your new value. Your input will replace the original value, even though the number is not selected while you type.

All new sliders in GIMP 2.8 series have a top and bottom part. Hover the cursor over it and you'll see how it changes (arrow up and two arrows to the sides). The top part is used for large increments of value and the bottom for fine tuning.

Thanks guys. Hovering the mouse in just the right place before I click gives me the behavior I wanted. It's still kind of clumsy compared to the old interface, but I suppose I'll get used to it eventually. Thanks again for your responses.
