i seem to be not getting tabs for stages in my pictures any more. How can I get them back? They can be of use I have found when one pic goes haywire and you don't have to go back to the start, just an earlier version.

Hi sallyanne,

If you are referring to the 'Undo History' then you can redisplay it by...

Windows → Dockable Dialogs → Undo History
2.7. Undo History Dialog

Thankyou fluffy and Odin. - That is not what I meant though.
I cant give you a screen shot because I don't have them any more.
I am sure I didn't imagine it before. I had tabs 'above' the picture window and each picture that was open stayed there as a tab until it was turned off.
I don't think I have changed my gimp window either it is still only one.

All fixed. Didn't think they were working and they are.

The only tabs I can think you are refering to are the new image tabs, Open gimp and then open a new image, open another new image and you should now have two tabs across the top of your work space one for each new image.
Sometimes when you run a filter on a piece of work it will open the results in a new image rather than destroy your original.

That's why I hadn't been seeing them hearty. I assumed it was layers as well. I hadn't been opening more than one picture at a time ;)
