Drawing a single pixel.

GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

In the old GUI in GIMP it was relatively straightforward how to adjust the size of a brush or pencil tool to make it just a single pixel in size. How do I do this in the new GUI in GIMP? In the "Brushes" window I first looked through the various brushes available. I found one called "Pixel (1x1 square) (1 x 1)", however, when I try to use this brush, it appears to be much larger than a single pixel. Then I tried to edit the brush, but I was not allowed to alter the attributes. I proceed to try create a new brush, and set everything to minimum, but despite this, the brush size appears much larger than a single pixel.

I hope there is some very easy way to do this that I have overlooked, surely plotting single pixels cannot be that hard to do.

malloc: this is actually one of the things many people dislike with gimp 2.8(+), that it's so hard to get a small size brush. there may be easier ways than this, but here's how i do it: click the slider for brush size, just next to the arrows on the right. you will get the cursor showing up nest to the figures. press delete, then type in 1 and press enter. the pixel brush size is now set to one pixel.

why not just drag the slider all to the left ?
instant 1px brush

hmmm even in my version (gimp 2.6) only the pen tool do real 1px, if you use the paint brush tool with a 1px brush it will still be dynamic so sometimes it'll result as 1px shape but not always.

Try the pen tool with a 1px brush, I think it's what you want, and save the preset for future usage.

Anmal, people don't like it because they don't know how to properly use it.
The brush size slider (like other similar sliders in GIMP 2.8 series) has two parts: the upper part for gross increments of values and the lower part for fine tuning. Mouse over it and the mouse cursor changes it appearance: up arrow to double-sided arrows. Beside, you can set up Alt-Scroll Mouse wheel to adjusting brush size. These stuff actually speeds up the workflow compared to gimp 2.6 and a lot of people find it much better when they get used to it .

k1tesseraena: i've never really got that to work, if i use the sliders it takes unnecessary movements back and forth on the touchpad before i get precisely the size i want, punching in the size is easier on my fingers and so far quicker - but i'll probably get used to the sliders too. i think they're here to stay, so sooner or later i will have to and i'm not even complaining

it sounded like malloc might have the same kind of problem with the sliders and a lot of people don't know how to change the figures, that's why i wrote what i wrote.
