GIMP Version: 2.8.4
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: XP - SP3
GIMP Experience: Advanced Level

How is gimp-console supposed to work in 2.8? I just installed 2.8.4 in a WinXP virtual box, and if regular Gimp works OK, gimp-console-2.8.exe, started in a command prompt, does nothing for about 20 seconds then prints a:
(gimp-console-2.8.exe:884): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: gimp-console-2.8.exe: gimp_wire_read(): error

and seems to hang.

Am I overlooking something?

Hi Ofnuts,
I always use the console inside GIMP, but after reading your post I launched gimp-console-2.8.exe directly from the bin directory.
I got the same message you got, but also other messages concerning errors on duplicate entries or superfluous menu registrations; the latter are obviously related only to my environment (useful info for myself); then nothing more.
I don't know whether this is what you defined as "hang", because I don't know what it was supposed to do. I put this as info for you.

Don't you need to tell GIMP to do something when using Windows gimp-console?

What happens if you run the following command:
gimp-console-2.8.exe -i -b "(plug-in-script-fu-server 1 10008 \"\")"

"hang" is no further output, and no measurable CPU usage on the process monitor...

Your command eventually elicits "batch command executed successfully", but "-i" is "--no-interface" and it was my understanding that you could start the Gimp UI that way, and look in the gimp-console terminal for the debug output of scripts and plugins.

As I understand it gimp-console does not start the UI, so it's what I use for batch scripts as it will start quicker.

The --verbose option will work for both BUT is extremely non verbose in my experience.
