Since upgrading to Sierra on my iMac and my Macbook Pro. I can no longer use GIMP with as much success I have been doing for a very long time. My friend, who sadly died just before Christmas from Motor Neurone Disease had the same problem after upgrading to Sierra.

I joined this forum in 2011 and learned a lot about GIMP with the help of its members and have written a couple of tutorials for Mac users way back then,
so I guess that puts me in a higher than average user, but I am not high tech like some of you are.. I use GIMP on a daily basis for various things, but do not have the knowledge
for script writing or figuring how things work, I just do it and normally work it out. But for now I am stumped by the fact that just for starters, basic every day script will not work properly..
I can line them up and get them to the point where they are ready to clock the ok button and it wont work...so I hit the return button instead...and maybe it will work, maybe not.
drop shadow for a starter is one...things like making adjustments to the book standard blur filters...cannot be done....so no radial blues no angular blurs etc as they just wont work.

Then I can access G'MIC, and the main lost will appear but try to scroll...isn't happening...not to mention the drop down arrows don't work, ok buttons don't work,
(on a lot of things most of the time).

I can see where the problem lies and I am sure its the Sierra OS and I am desperate for someone to take it on board and fix it...realistically speaking, the best I can do for GIMP build itself
for MAC OS is GIMP 2.8.14 but I am thinking of trying to go back to GIMP 2.8.12 to see if that will fix the problem...or hopefully, someone will take on board the challenge of doing a new build for Mac users of GIMP. For now, what I have will not work, try as I may and I am about to give up on GIMP altogether and maybe go to PSE...its driving me nuts with frustration trying every day.

Just putting it out there to see if someone can help with this.

This is the main reason I still use Yosemite.

It worked fine in El Capitan 2-ton...its Sierra that has finished it. I just hope its not a final thing.
I am pretty sure a new build of GIMP for Mac users would do the trick. But I have no idea where to start with that kind of thing.

I'm an extreme newbie to GIMP but I have recently had some very script specific issues that I myself caused by accidentally changing a file association of the .scm file to notepad from (I think) windows powershell. As it happens the script still works but is buggy and often causes GIMP to crash...maybe try cleaning the registry?

Thanks for the input but we are talking Mac computer here not Windows. Its a bit different and the computer is as clean as a whistle.

Well in case anyone is interested, I have just found that Simone has created a newer version for Sierra...am downloading it now and will report on its success....or not...LOL.

At work, we try to also support Macs (helpdesk). Well, Sierra has been so locked down that I've mentioned several times that we need to stop supporting those that use Sierra unless we are actually given tools to do so. I share your pain in that respect, Pauline. Apple's gone completely control freak crazy nearly making their OS unusable.

Thanks for that Lyle. Unfortunately for me, the problem still exists even using the latest build by Simone. I am so disappointed. And perhaps you are right...

I have tried getting the GIMP working as I like it using my virtual PC with a version of Linux but it just does not sit right on the screen and so I am now thinking
of maybe trying it on the Windows 7 virtual machine which supports PSP, so I am thinking I might get happy with GIMP on that. I will however need a bit of help
getting all the filters and scripts etc in the right places. Thanks for the help though.

I appreciate the comments but I have done some of those you mention and am sifting through and hopefully will find one that actually works. I know all the places to get them but value your input just the same. By the way you left out Simones version but hers doesnt work either in any case...I'm sure Lyle is on target with his statement...it is definitely something to do with Sierra I feel.

Well I have to tell you that I have tried many different versions but the same problem persists and so I am pretty sure it is the Sierra update that has burgered it and like they (Apple) could care less for a third party application...I am going to try using the WINDOWS version of GIMP as soon as I can get advice on which one to get. I have had little luck learning how to extras such as brushes, scripts etc etc on the Linux version...it seems complicated to me and I just cannot get it to fit correctly into the amount of desktop space I have on the virtual...Linux just seems out of whack with it.

Has anyone had success getting Gimp to work with Sierra? I've had no end of problems with Gimp since upgrading my OS from Yosemite to Sierra. So I tried High Sierra and it's even worse! I've tried all versions of Gimp from 8.14 to 8.22 including the builds that are touted as being Sierra compatible, but still no joy. The most frustrating problems occur whenever anything from Script-fu is called. Usually the script process completes, but then script-fu hangs and will not quit. Only force-quitting will work. But then Gimp must be restarted to get any script-fu functionality back. Eeeeek!!!! I'm just about to downgrade OS back to Yosemite, but thought I'd ask here if anyone's gotten it to work! Gimp problems are the whole reason that I still run Yosemite. I don't want to upgrade to Sierra until a version of Gimp and G'Mic can work well with it.
