Wacom Bamboo Pen & Gimp Help

GIMP Version: 2.6.11
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: XP - SP3
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

Using Windows 7 Home Premium

I have a 1 year old Wacom Bamboo Pen tablet and would like to know if I need to configure this to gimp or will it automatically pick it up?
I've played a little and don't find the tools for my tablet and when I attempt to draw don't get the tapered or pressured lift and opacity in my lines. Any advice is appreciated.

Have you installed Bamboo driver?.
If you had installed yet Bamboo driver try to open Gimp from desktop with the tablet.
If Gimp opens, go to Edit and select Input devices. There you can find the settings for your tablet.

Make sure you open Gimp with your pen not your mouse. There is a bug in 2.6 and opening with your pen forces Gimp to register it otherwise it will treat it like a mouse with no pressure sensitivity.

You need to just have your pen above the tablet when GIMP opens (during the splash screen), so that the orange light in the tablet turns on.

Thank you so much for the tip. I just got a Wacom Bamboo and was having the same problem with pressure sensitivity. Using the tablet to open Gimp worked like a charm.
