Question About File Extension Types
So I decided to demonstrate rather than describe. How do I save as a specified extension type? Such as .png, .jpeg, .gif and etc.?

You can either just type in the extension or use this drop down

You have to Export as for different image formats such as PNG, JPG, TIFF.
You can either Export while overwrite or Export to a new file name.

Save as is for the Gimp workspace file which is XCF.Similar to Photoshops PSD it saves paths, layers, and things of that nature.If you have not saved the file at all during your work, at close it will prompt you to do so.
This assures you do not lose your work unless you really want to close without save. :bigthup

Thank you so much. I figured the xpc must be like psd so that much was easy enough to understand but I would not have thought to click export to access the save as file type. Ok well now I have the basics under my belt, time to attempt some art work!
Does the forum host line art or something like a community event where a lineart is posted and we all take a crack at it and share our versions?
I had something like that on my site and it drew a lot of participation and creative musing. A nice way to fellowship.

If you use 2.6.11 forget export. This is another Gimp bug - you have to type in the extension you want to save in. eg. MyWork.bmp.

Doh my bad.I should have looked to see which version you were using.My apologies.
Export was started after 2.6 versions.Gimp-2.8.4 is the latest stable version by the way. :)
