Back ages ago when I upgraded from Gimp 2.4 to 2.6, I had trouble with the layer and tool panels remaining on top of my image window. I had posted a help request on GimpTalk and was told a setting to change to fix this issue. Now that I have Gimp on the new machine, I am going through the same thing and can't figure out what it is. I went into GT but sadly my GT accound doesn't seem to exist anymore. :bawl :huh :hoh Any help on the Gimp window issue would be greatly appreciated.

Is the answer:
Edit > Preferences, select Window Management on left, on right - Window Manager Hints: hint for the toolbox: Utility, hint for other docks: Utility?

It took a lot of searching, but I found it!!

Edit>Preferences>Window Management>
Then in "Hint for the toolbox" and "Hint for other docks", change Utility Window to Normal Window.

EDIT: Thanks muchly. We posted at the same time.

I'm curious PM, what OS are you on? Mine (on Linux) has to be set to Utility to keep the Toolbox and other docks on top.

I'm on Windows 7 (64 bit). I didn't want my toolboxes on top of my image, so I had to turn change it from Utility to Normal.

Ah. That explains the difference. Even though I can dual-boot to 64-bit Vista and have XP on a virtual machine, I spend so much time on Linux that I actually forget how to do things in Windows - and I started with MS on DOS 3.3 and eventually migrated to Windows 3.1 not long after it was released. In fact, I can stretch out my arm and lay hands on install disks for Win 95, 98, XP, and Vista, every 32-bit release of Ubuntu since 6.04, and two releases of LinuxMint.

Hi, my name's Bob and I am a pack-rat. :lol :geek

One of these days I'll move to 64-bit LinuxMint and clean house. I promise.
