Text Effect for Image

GIMP Version: 2.8.4
Operating System: Linux
GIMP Experience: Intermediate Level

So I'm trying to create a Believers Baptism Card, trawling the net for ideas found a good blender tutorial, Liked the effect but have no clue about blender, so I have tried to recreate the effect using gimp. Now I'm after some text to go across the middle of my background image but at a loss as to what style to use, it needs to complement the background but also needs to stand out, I'm also not sure if I should use the wording "Baptism" or "Baptise". Any ideas much appreaciated.

Have you seen the tutorial on how to do text with the background showing through it? That might be a nice idea. I love the idea of water and fire. If I find the tut I'll edit my message with the link.

I like serifed typeface fonts and there quite a few you can select from. Why not give that a try?
There's this font called 'Imperator', that I think looks pretty good.

Or you can have a look at the kind of serifed typeface fonts that they have to offer.

Try Book Antiqua. A nice older Biblical type font face.

Maybe use some fancy Caps.

Here's a quick example of something to try.

Duplicated layer, transformed horizontally the original layer.
I used War Priest font for example.
Alpha select text, select duplicate layer, clear.
Alpha selection to Path, stroke path with white, hide text layer.

Just completed the effect and added a lomo as well...
