text tool

hi everyone..Havent been around due to health issues lately. That couple with work commitments has made it tricky to be doing the forum rounds as well..
I have a problem with GIMP though which seems to have arisen since upgrading my computer to Mavericks and perhaps it may not even be related to the upgrade but something in the settings which has adjusted itself for me....this is occurring in my tool box settings mainly noticed with the Text Tool, which is allowing me to start to type but is reverting back from fixed text to dynamic text when I type 1 letter using the text tool...I have other means of adding a text but am so used to it just happening that I cant get my head around it...if someone can give me a suggestion how to fix this I would be very grateful. I'm sure its in my settings but do you think I can find it?? Not on your life at the moment...Thank you in advance

Error there, its GIMP 2.8.6 sorry and this is also happening in the 2.9 version as well as that was my first port of call when I tried to see if it was an isolated thing.

I just responded to you in an email, akky. Hope that provides a workaround.

Hmmm. Care to share the workaround with the rest of us? All Mac users have switched to "panic mode" these days.

Partha has suggested turning off the keyboard shortcuts in the preferences menu..I dont use them but he told methat they are there automatically in any case so we need to go in there and turn them off...I thought this was working with one version that that has let me down so I am now going to try to reinstall GIMP 2.8.6 and see if I can get it to work in that...if not I will be using Time Machine to go back to Mountain Lion until the issue is corrected somehow. I will let you know how I go.

Things seem to be working at the moment having turned off the Keyboard Shortcuts...Anything further will get back to you...

So open GIMP and go to menu up top, GIMP/preferences/Interface/Remove all keyboard shortcuts
Don't forget to click ok.

If there is going to be panic let it be organised....GIMP isnt the only thing I am concerned about not working with Mavericks, but for me its the most important. I think the fixes will come but they should have been already thought about and they havent been. Its just a glorified update anyway IMHO, not an actual new OS as suggested...much like Lion to Mountain Lion, its just the next step. Most things can be sorted by using Mountain Lion Tweaks but 3rd party software is taking its time to catch up.

Thanks for the info. Now I am not so sure I want to update right away, until the bug fixes start coming in.

2-ton I am thinking of reverting back to ML via Time Machine. If I have any more issues with GIMP I'll be going back

Sorry about that Ofnut. I was offline. :(

Looks like Akky has already conveyed my message. I updated McGimp and put the caveat on my website as well.

Not much that you will notice in day-to-day work. So, no need to update unless you have a pressing need.

I updated just to be sure that my McGimp builds work on a Maverick machine. I do test them on ML and SL. :)

and I am not having any further issues with GIMP since following parthas advice. 2-ton I would agree with partha 100% on the upgrade really...unless you absolutely have to no need to worry at this point...it is free though

I see no need to upgrade for now, although it is annoying to see the little #1 in my app store icon on the dock, lol.

Yes, this problem definitely did put me in panic mode.
I wish there were some easy way to avoid this problem.

I was at a startup conference and couldnt make a logo design as the text tool kept going crazy. I had no option but to use open office to create something.

But thanks anyway for the solution. Removing keyboard shortcuts worked!

I've had it installed now for a few weeks, it's connected more with iCloud now. Keychaining passwords into the cloud, that's interesting. Also of note is the tabbed finder. I still working on getting the feel for it but its better than just opening window after window to pass files around.

Thank you for posting, removing keyboard shortcuts fixed the problem for me too.

Cheers.
