tutorial question

Can anyone tell me where I can find a basic tutorial for gimp?

I am learning from the beginning. When I have my gimp open I see only one big window. Isn't there suppose to be 3 work windows?
Today, I want to create a measured grid page so I can upload several images onto it. So I can later print the document to scissor-cut out the images for an art project.

If you want 3 work windows, then to to Windows on the top bar and unclick single dock mode, that will give you 3 separate windows, if you are in single mode the two smaller windows attach to the center one so there is one small on each side.
I, myself prefer the single mode
