OK,
I have to draw a picture where the hero is dumping potato chips all over a soap monster's head (don't ask.) I want to draw chips flying all over like confetti.

I'd also like to draw lots of bubbles around as it is a soap monster, after all.

However I do not want to have to draw each chip or bubble in separately, yet I'd like to be able to have the size and/or orientation vary.

I think this can be done with custom brushes but I'm not familiar with making them.

What is the easiest, fastest way to get this effect?

Tony

I think you've answered your own question Mechatherium.
Your best bet would be to create a custom "prush-pipe/image hose", with the .gih file extension. All you would need to do is create maybe 3 or 4 different kind of chips, on their own layer. Keep it simple and start with 6 or 8 layers for your brush, placing each chip on it's own layer. Duplicate each layer and change it's position, whichever way you see fit ie. rotate, scale/size, moved left or right etc.

This bit of information is all well and good, but if you haven't the slightest idea how to create an animated brush. This may seem like a daunting task.

Graechan's link will show you how to create an animated brush. The way you save the file is slightly different when using Gimp 2.8, but if you know how to save stuff. Then you shouldn't have any problem making your own custom animated brush.
And when you say, "don't ask"... guess what, we're going to ask. :hehe
