Hello!

I am trying to figure out how to reduce the size of a pdf file in order to email it.

I am editing photos and graphics in gimp and then inserting them into an open office draw document.

I converted it into a pdf by printing it on the cutepdf converter. There is also a option within open office to export to pdf

I have emailed the file and no one can get it because it is too big.

I dont see any option for decreasing the file size.

Do I have to create a zip file? If so, could you point me in the directions of a link with instructions?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks
:gimp :tyspin :tyspin :) FlipFlop

Are you using Linux or Windows?

I use cups-pdf in Ubuntu and never seem to have very large file sizes.

The pdf settings make a big difference. A quick test

Using libreoffice(openoffice), with two 1800x2500 jpegs (about 1.5 MB each) on one page. Then exporting as a pdf.

The default setting with jpeg= 90% & 300 dpi produced a pdf = 1.8 MB
with jpeg= 80% & 300 dpi produced a pdf = 1 MB
with jpeg= 80% & 150 dpi produced a pdf = 230 kB

From memory cute pdf might be even worse, maybe have a default dpi of 600 - you need to check the settings.

Whatever big is your PDF zipping will dramatically shrink the size...and use .7zip format will shrink file size much more then standard .zip

in case 7zip is the tool for the trade (not the only but a good one )

PS. Gmail seems support very huge attachment
