Wallace you were thinking of EnviroLogo

I guess I am going bonkers then. :hehe But isn't EnviroLogo also based on gradients not patterns?
Thanks Graechan. :bigthup

Like Warrior, I usually overlay patterns too.

While there are no provisions to use a pattern to automatically generate an emap in BRL, I have experimented with manually using patterns & images to create emaps for use in BRL, with varying levels of success.

I found that some patterns and images work pretty well, while others don't. In almost all cases, the emaps from patterns/images required a significant level of smoothing (usually done in GMIC) to avoid pixelation and/or otherwise odd results. Oregonian and I played around with this several months ago and did find some patterns and images that produced interesting results.

Here are the results of some tests I did.

The above examples were not generated using patterns overlays on BRL results. Patterns/images were directly used to create the emaps, then those emaps were used in BRL.

Also, the maps need not be spherical. You can use so called Lat/Long maps.

I do mine almost the same as that, I go to layers > layer effects > Patterns overlay > then put the overlay pattern in overlay mode.

Just thought that I would add a few words ... I usually overlay BRL with patterns as per Warrior method, using grainmerge and multiply also ...

Image

Outcome using same pattern from Enviro Logo ...

I actually prefer the BRL outcome because it has more 'body' ... but both deliver terrific results!

This pattern was an amalgam of 2 patterns I previously created called 'bamboo' and 'sandstone' - GIMP is just marvelous at doing this.

I see now...
I guess I misunderstood something somewhere along the way. I was thinking there was a pattern option added to BRL that could be used to creat E-Maps.
Silly Me... :hehe

BTW... Great work you guys! :bigthup

I think you mean the "neuron" pattern. Looks stunning anyway ..but again, what emap was that?

Thank you jontait2. and Wallace. I used the PS Style 1.png by Wallace. I find I have better luck when I use very large emaps.

I've made a couple of changes to my working version of BRL and I'll add the option to use a pattern fill, instead of a gradient, when generating the emap. With all the creativity of GC members, it will certainly lead to something pretty cool. :hehe

I enjoy the gradient option very much.
Will this option be removed from BRL or will the use of patterns be in addition to a gradient option?
Can't there be both options available for use?

@Wallace - Using a gradient to generate the emap is essential to the script. The pattern fill would just be another option, same as in the Envirologo script.

@Marcello - Nice result. Using Lat/Long maps can produce really cool effects. :hehe

Has a little bit of aliasing, but not too bad. I know the result resembles it, but this is not the same map as Wallace posted. I'm trying new maps, and overlay techniques.
