Great old minds think alike Dinasset ... I was yesterday viewing some photos I took in Japan some time back. It was also in Japan that we bought some beautiful textured paper for calligraphy. So I thought about combining the two ...

Image

Hiroshima memorial park; just a very, very sobering experience never to be forgotten.

Image

A typical beautiful Japanese garden and I was pleased with the way the colours came out.

By the way Dinasset, I used your 'wood' pattern type for the paper textures and when I used sandstone textures I chose 'brick'; are there any guidelines/rules/preferences for applying your 'pattern types' against different textures?

very nice images, OMG!
about the use of the options for texture types, the most evident difference is that only for wood texture "engrave" (the horizontal lines) is applied, and that plain metal texture has some "shining"; but to know the differences you may (if not already done):
- open the script source with a text editor (notepad++ the best)
- look at the initial introductory flow description to identify the different behaviours
but, in any case, because the most important aspect is the relationship between the image and the texture, one should only try and choose!
thanks for your appreciation

@Dinasset - you are probably aware that I have ben playing with fractal reliefs of late. I have saved some as textured patterns and tried one in your great script, using the 'rusty metal' option. An Aussie bush river scene from a recent holiday ...

Image

The only change I made was in the last texture layer from 'darken only' to hue

EDIT ... one more just for luck - different fractal, used saturate as blend mode this time.

@Issabella - thank you so much for your kind words, I appreciate them very much. :bigthup

In reality though, I am just an 'old kid' who has been given a new, very powerful and pleasurable toy (GIMP and all its scripts etc) to play with and I am 'gobsmacked' by what is there to try out. That is all I do, I just try things out, learning so much more all the time, and obviously you do not get to see those results that do not work very well. ;)

Thank you again.

Xnview is good to use, I've tried this before. But later, I've switched to Windows Pixel Reducer for its easier run.

Sinclair,
I do not understand your comments on this thread.
Anyone else more clever than me?

Probably posted wrong thread, xnview = free multi-format graphics viewer with batch conversion and image processing capabilities. Pixresizer will batch resize jpgs.

Was this script updated recently? I ask because of the recent posts. I just want to make sure I have the current version.

Sorry, no.
It's still the one you have.

I do not get any more a reasonable outcome from this filter.
Maybe some embedded filter have changed, I don't know.
I have to go thru the source, but it will take me a while, it's a scheme script and nowadays I'm more practicing python

I turned off some layers, ran a couple of sharpen filters and filled white (color by selection) with a transparent pattern, pleasing to me.
