Now that's way too cool Molly. You caught me at the wrong time hanciong (way too lazy at the moment) but I will share you the shortcut to Mehdi's Kaleidoscope plugin (free by the way). If you choose even numbers, it will automatically give you a seamless texture (that's a hint). Since I believe it no longer works with PSPI (bummer), you have to use Shellout and a surrogate program like XNView to run this filter. :)

I wonder if you can do something like this with G'MIC's kaleidoscope filter.

lylejk, that is a super cool texture you made dude! Thanks for posting the info on creating it. Actually, I spent a few hours today trying to make Mehdi's Kaleidoscope work with PSPI on Gimp 2.6 to no avail.
Here is my go at your lace:

I had to look again there B-and-P. Thought it was a photo so I checked the pattern in detail. That is stunning work! I think the perspective on the wine glasses is slightly out but I'm not complaining - I couldn't do anything like that. Beautiful work!!!

Very cool use of the texture B-and-P. Yeah, PSPI, pretty much, got completely broken for certain types of PS plugins back in 2.6.8 (or was it 2.6.9) and since PSPI is not a supported GIMP plugin, it got the red headed step child treatment. I wish GIMP would go ahead and just make PSPI work as an internal feature but I can only guess it has to do with GNU licensing. Oh well. :)

What about the lace (weave) effect itself, was it done of Kaleidoscope too? I heard you guys talking about Droste, I am unfamiliar with that. But I got the MathMap today, can't figure it out yet.

Droste is a mathmap preset B-and-P. Mathmap is an extremely powerful language if you know how to code and can do quite a lot of things. It's preview is spot on too unlike many other GIMP Plugins. You will like Droste once you figure out the inerds of it B-and-P. Yes, the final step was to run Mehdi's Kaleidoscope filter using Shellout to call XNView (XNView being the PS plugin surrogate program). Again, I do wish someone would take over supporting PSPI and update it for both PS filter compatibility and preview (even when PSPI was working for the broken PS plugins, the preview stunk; the higher end plugins use their own preview driver and are fantastic (such as EyeCandy 3 plugins, Impressionist (need to know the secret edit to get this plugin to work), Paint Engine (same secret trick as Impressionist), GML Matting (my favorite extractor, but RGGJAN stand-a-lone would replace it imo if they ever implement it in GIMP itself), and Flaming Pear's plugins (not all, but many do still work in PSPI and their preview is again superior). :)

Ok, Thanks for the detailed answer.

Here is another render using your texture.
(For those asking, these are 3D renders from Cinema 4D, but you could do that in Blender or other high-end 3d app)

When I first downloaded Mathmap, a lot of the presets were broken. Recently Graechan shared how to install Mathmap in 2.8 and Graechan's presets all work so it's worth using Graechan's version. Very cool boche balls by the way. I actually created an orb using this preset too (mathmap) but didn't share it. Can't beat a 3D app though. :)

I know; ssp (shameless self promotion) but my side hobbie is seamless textures so while we are on the subject of textures..... lol

If you want to use any that I've posted here or at the portal site for them (Deviant) feel free to use them as you see fit. :)
