I admit not testing and comparing the enlargement of the source.
Never had a blank like Pat, but after the Image to Layer I always set the
view back to FIT SCREEN.
Sometimes have ideas and just go ahead and do the process, if the outcome
is good I just keep trying it for a while before testing. This week end I will
test to see if the enlargement really gives a 'larger' quantized area or not.

Dinasset: Good resolution. On my monitor, it still looks dark.
Animicule: How did you keep the lines off the smoke?

Pat, I could not resist using cropping in that area as the smoke in that area was key to me.. (went around the smoke in the mouth up to the nose only). -- first make new from visible of the outcome, copy source image of same size as subject, pasted layer into outcome stack and moved it under the outcome new from visible then made subject new from visible the active layer and selected with lasso tool with feather set to 80 pix and deleted the selection.

Animicule: I thought you might have cropped it in somehow. Very skillfully, I might add.
I love your carousel! Really nice.

Well animicule, you really are proving that practice and persistence produces great work, love the smoking lady. On page 41 you mentioned "with smoothing turned off", if you don't mind, what does this mean?

Thank you.
This one utilizes the "seamless" patterns in my GIMP stash. :clap Just barely made it on size limit upload for this one. :hehe

Pat, thank you, but with the feathering set to 80 pixels it was really very easy..

Very nice Rod! Thanks for sharing.
Re: size limit, at first I was uploading .png, (with a slow internet connection) but changed to
.jpg saved at 40% quality which seems just fine for viewing and very much smaller size.

RJKD, I don't remember, but if you figure it out, let me know!

I did some tests with the gigantic file size vs normal and there
are some differences in the outcomes all at 256colors, not great but enough
so that I preferred one over the other each time (not always the gigantic),
and as usual the subject image may be the main reason for the differences.

Rod: Love both of your images. Very clear and precise lines. Your dog is a good image for all of the filter trials!

RJKD: Smoothing layer as on page 41 refers to the bottom layer of the stack when you run this filter. Choose NO in dialog box where asked if you want image flattened. That way you have all the layers in the stack and can alter each one individually, run other filters, change opacities, turn them on or off to suit your preferences.

WOW! That is so detailed and precise! What settings and pattern did you use for that?

I made the subject as large as the maximum for dinassett's filter, unsharp, color/saturation for brighten about 65 then ran dinassett's filter using the maximum size (just type a very large number 20000 and it will automatically lower to the maximum) with 256 colors, RGB552set, graphic boost, chroma boost, rounding 1.0, move background to top and no flatten. Watched it for a few minutes and it looked like processing about 3 or 4 colors per minute, so went to sleep and in the morning did some layer play and scaled it down.

This one made subject large, very bright, made a seamless pattern from a blue feather and de saturated it then made is about 60% opacity and mixed
it with rgb552set. 256 colors, mixed patterns, graphic boox/chroma boost, rounding 1.0 move bg to top, no flatten. then layer play.

That's beautiful, Animicule. When you place a pattern on 552 colors, do you have to do each one separately, or do you have a batch file program?

animicule, it's really fantastic what you get with this filter. I love your images and how much patience you have. Good! :clap :kpix
