GnuTux I checked the resizing issues and sent you fixes in a PM. I've tested it and it works well

Finally got the time to pick back up on this script.

@Graechan - I ended up going back to the original Drop Shadow script and using the resize logic from there. It works well and I figure there is no reason to reinvent the wheel. :hehe

The new version includes the following updates.

RC V0.7 - If shadow name is blank (default) then use selected layer name
Add toggle to keep shadow layer above selected layer
Simplify shadow merge logic
Always add alpha channel
Dump merge visible layers option
Rework image sizing with logic from original GIMP Drop Shadow Script

Summary of features
Drop Shadow, Glow, Inner Shadow, Inner Glow and Feathering
Specify separate x & y blur radius values
Added the ability to specify shadow name (or pass from another script)
Labels shadow layers using selected (or passed) layer name + shadow type
Ability to keep drop shadow on top at all times (For RGB Selection)
Support for RGB, RGBA & Gray Scale Images
Fully compatible with GIMP 2.6.x or GIMP 2.8.x (with layer group support)

Download the new version from Gimp Scripts

A big thanks to Graechan and SaulGoode for their contributions and to everyone who helped test this script, especially Oregonian, who always seems to find my bugs.

Let me know if y'all see any problems with this version. I think it's a keeper! :pengy

Thanks GnuTux I'll definitely take a look at this (you know kick the tyres and take it for a spin)

Thanks everyone!

@Graechan - I've actually found a small bug with resizing when glow is selected and have already fixed that one. Thanks for checking it out and let me know if you find any more. :cool

Also, I'm considering adding an option to do a "layer to image size" on the selected layer, as a toggle option, which would execute whenever the image needs resizing.

I like that idea. I have a keyboard shortcut to resize layer to image size that I use constantly.

Totally love this script.

Thank you, Eristian & O.

The script evolved into more than I originally envisioned, which was the ability to call a drop shadow routine from another script and pass it the shadow layer name. I guess I'll get around to using that feature one of these days. :hehe

With no further error reports coming in, it appears all the bugs have been exterminated in the release candidates, so I feel comfortable releasing the Official Version 1.0.

There are two small updates in GC Shadow V1.0.

1) Correct small bug with re-sizing when glow is selected.
2) When allow resize toggle is selected, re-size new layer to image size.

See first post for the details.

Download the new version from Gimp Scripts.

Tux
Just now I came to know this script. The good thing is that we found the bug free!

I tried various settings and got good results.
If there could be an option for presets, as there is in Curves, I could save various settings that most pleased me, without having to do them again, or memorize them.

Thanks for the script

@YAFU - :bigthup

@Akros - Adding presets is a possibility. Although, there are some cross platform file system issues that would have to be dealt with. One thing you can do right away is to edit the script and change the default settings to values that you more frequently use.

What could be simpler than a shadow you may ask, well just about anything.
It's been a lot of hard work GnuTux but the results show it

You are so right Graechan. :hehe

This shadow script was a lot more difficult than I first imagined, especially when having to deal with re-sizing issues, layer groups and multiple GIMP versions.

It has become a very useful script now though, with a big thanks to you and Saul for your input. :bigthup
