I'm working on a new filter trying to implement a "DaveHill-like" effect.
I post here my experiments.
If there is interest, it may become a new filter.

Sources come from DeviantArt (name of the original images is reported in the name of the outcome)

Interesting looks dinasset. In the image with more contrasting color the lowest version seems to work better and the image with similar tones, they all look pretty good.

Thanks Odin !
You're right, and for this reason the ongoing filter has an option to select among low, medium and strong effect, depending on the initial image luminosity, contrast and color structure (and also depending on the user's taste)

And a completely different opinion.
I'm not a fan of this effect - people look like ill-treated.
Sorry - only "low" to me - although still too high contrast (and depressing for me :hoh ).
We are happy to try and use a plugin for the landscape, animals and still life .... :yes

Thanks Marero (btw Issabella is of the same opinion, privately expressed).
Next I will post a different subject.

if someone likes to see the effects on a specific picture, he/she can post it here and I will submit it to my ongoing filter

Thanks Dinasset. I love your effect on views and wild life. You have these photos to transform them in art. :)
If they aren't appropriate, please ignore them . :)

I must admit that I also am not a fan of the "Dave Hill effect." To me, the subjects always appear much better without it.

OK.
So far 3 neg (MareroQ, Issabella and Pat) against 1 pos (me); Odin seems to be closer to me but I do not want to force him on my site, so I consider him neutral, unless he contradicts me.
And my taste is also the opposite in the area of use: I definitely prefer to use it on people instead of landscape (animals are also OK for me).
For instance, I tried use it on Issabella landscapes but results are bad, even at low level: there is always an halo appearing at the margins of the sky
