Here is a new version of the Joined-upText plugin - version 1.04 - intended to work on Gimp version 2.8. If the old script worked on earlier versions of Gimp this should work too.
This script requires the installation of my JoinerVariations-v4 and ItalicVariations True Type fonts. It is not compatible with earlier versions of JoinerVariations so it is best to remove older versions of the script as well the JoinerVariations-v3 font to avoid problems. JoinerVariations-v4 will appear as JoinerVariations in your font lists.

The filter now accesses two joined-up fonts from the filter menu. The image below illustrates the two fonts with their font character variations:

The filter menu dialog has been updated to reflect these changes but, as a consequence, it is rather less specific in the letter variations.
The filter can be accessed via Filters > Text FX > Joined-up Fonts... dialog. Here is the usual link to a topic about viewing large dialog boxes in py scripts.
