Hey,

This plugin downloads NASA's APOD (Astronomy Picture of the Day) from https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html into Gimp if the image is a .jpg/.jpeg or .gif; with an option to save the image. You can find it at File/Create/Render/Get APOD.
